Creating a Wood Segmentation Masterpiece: Eastern Bluebird

"Bluebird, flying high, tell me what you see. Can you see a world that's waiting, just for you and me?"

These iconic lyrics from The Beatles' song "Blue Bird" perfectly capture the spirit of my latest artistic endeavor. Today, we delve into the realm of segmentation, combining the beauty of nature and the power of craftsmanship to create a stunning representation of an Eastern Bluebird.

This project is a labor of love, I love listening to the birds singing outside my bedroom window in the morning. I wanted to reflect the beauty of their song.

Using traditional scrollsaw techniques, I cut nearly 30 wooden pieces, each one capturing the intricate features of the Eastern Bluebird and its habitat.

But the creativity doesn't stop there. Inspired by the vibrant hues of the bird's plumage, I have taken to the canvas of wood with various rattle cans of spray paint. Every individual segment has been adorned with at least three different colors, chosen to reflect the natural beauty of this species. As the sunlight dances upon the feathers, so do the shades upon the piece, creating a symphony of colors.

To complement the wood segmentation masterpiece, I have selected a "live edge" Teak backer board. The raw, organic edges provide a contrast to the crafted bird, enhancing the overall visual impact. This combination of nature's ruggedness and human artistry gives the artwork a unique and captivating presence.

A verse from Psalms 104:12, "By them the birds of the heavens have their habitation; They sing among the branches," has been incorporated into the back of this composition. It serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living creatures and the importance of cherishing our natural world.

As the Eastern Bluebird finds its home within the branches of trees, this piece captures the essence of its habitat. Through the art of segmentation, we pay homage to the intricate beauty of nature's design. The varied colors of the painted segments sing in harmony, echoing the bird's joyful melodies.

This project not only showcases the scrollsaw but also celebrates the wonders of creation. It serves as a reminder to cherish and protect the precious creatures that share our world. The Eastern Bluebird, once just a vision in our minds, now takes flight in the form of a wood segmentation artwork, a testament to the beauty that lies within our reach.

So, let the bluebird soar and inspire us to see the world with wonder and creativity. In the words of The Beatles, "Bluebird, fly away, spread your wings for a new tomorrow." And in the artistry of wood segmentation, we find a timeless expression of nature's majesty and human ingenuity combined.
